ABSTRACT
This study examines the theological meaning of serenity of life through an exegetical reading of Psalm 23. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with an exegetical approach, the study analyzes the psalm within its literary movement, theological symbolism, and relevance to contemporary human anxiety. The findings show that true serenity does not arise from the absence of suffering, material sufficiency, or external stability, but from a faith confession that places God as the sovereign Shepherd of life. Psalm 23 presents a coherent spiritual journey: trust in the Shepherd, restoration of the soul, moral guidance, courage amid the valley of darkness, divine hospitality in the presence of enemies, and assurance of enduring goodness and covenantal love. This study argues that serenity in Psalm 23 is fundamentally relational and covenantal. It is rooted in surrender to divine guidance rather than in human control. The article concludes that serenity becomes possible when the human person relinquishes self-rule and entrusts the future to the Shepherd whose presence transforms fear into peace and uncertainty into hope

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mengkaji makna teologis ketenangan hidup melalui pembacaan eksegetis terhadap Mazmur 23. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan eksegetis, penelitian ini menganalisis mazmur tersebut dalam pergerakan literer, simbolisme teologis, serta relevansinya terhadap kecemasan manusia kontemporer. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa ketenangan sejati tidak berasal dari ketiadaan penderitaan, kecukupan materi, atau stabilitas eksternal, melainkan dari pengakuan iman yang menempatkan Allah sebagai Gembala yang berdaulat atas kehidupan. Mazmur 23 menyajikan suatu perjalanan spiritual yang utuh: kepercayaan kepada Sang Gembala, pemulihan jiwa, tuntunan moral, keberanian di tengah lembah kekelaman, perjamuan ilahi di hadapan musuh, serta jaminan kebaikan dan kasih setia yang berkelanjutan dalam perjanjian. Penelitian ini berargumen bahwa ketenangan dalam Mazmur 23 bersifat relasional dan kovenantal, yang berakar pada penyerahan diri kepada tuntunan ilahi, bukan pada kontrol manusia. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa ketenangan menjadi mungkin ketika manusia melepaskan kendali diri dan mempercayakan masa depan kepada Sang Gembala, yang kehadiran-Nya mengubah ketakutan menjadi damai dan ketidakpastian menjadi pengharapan.
